(sorry for this flame, but felt the need to say a few things)
i wish people finally realize how bad windoze really is. how backwards and how it cripples the mind of the users. vista is the worst windoze ever (and the worst OS ever for that matter) you can't do absolutely anything with it, you pay $400 (or more) for it and you can play music because of the DRM, you can't copy it to another of your own machines because you have to pay for an extra license. you want a good word processor and no.., pay more and get word, which it won't let you open documents saved with its own previous version. you can code your own applications because it comes with no compiler of any language, you canget visual studio but, again pay a gazillion dollars. now for the really funky stuff: security. vista just made it to the market and it already has 248 known security bugs, 128 which are critical and were found in the 1st 36 hours of being out there, which leads me to the next point, you want security? well pay MORE money and get: firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware, user-file-protection (since any user can do anything to anyone's files under windoze), anti-anti-virus since the antivirus program is spying on you...
need i say more?
oh did i mentioned that all the "new" "state of the art" "brand new" features and ideas were stolen from Mac OSX and Linux?
good luck to all of you... don't come crying when windoze ate your 230 pages thesis for your PhD.
hmm I don't like such people who say that linux is so much better and Win is the worst of all. It is true that Linux has many features why you should switch to it ... costs nothing, doesn't send data to Redmond
some negative to Win :
The new version needs powerful hardware and most people have to buy a new machine.
programming:
through the .net-framework feature of Win you can for example build applications in c# ... with the freeware sharpdevelop.
bill gates also doesn't like drm (he said this in an interview) but the music industry wanted M$ to put this in their new os, I think.
I have also installed Linux (Suse Linux 8.2 pro) on my system and Windows (only the xp-version) too.
ok, .NET: install a 534mb framework to run a 32k program. hmmm that's good. and C#? well, looks like Java to me. why is so much of a problem to pay for a license to Sun in order to properly implement Java? oh no, Sun is not M$ so no, Mr. Gates cannot pay...
as for DRM, how come none of the other OS are falling for it? Linux has none, Mac OS has it in ITunes but you can easly turn it off and play and copy your own mp3/ogg/wav, etc. and on the same note, vista has a new feature that if hardware doesnt support drm (it's nor drm enambled) then vista disables the driver and sends to m$ that info and then ms$ disables the driver worldwide to all computers on the next upgrade! so you are a musician, spent $2000 on a really funky soundcard for your pc, and now you can't use it because of drm? fuck that!
whatever, i've been m$-free for over 10 years and it's SO much fun
oh, a note: i've been a developer since i was 10 (i'm 34 now) and i've been making a living out of it since i was 17. i KNOW a little bit about computers, i even worked with computers BEFORE the PC and M$ even existed. the current state of computing is SO sad.
Should this mean to me that I am a bit too stupid for computers? ^^ At the age of 10 I got my first computer. I program now for 5 years. Now I'm 18 and live for computers.
Sorry if I forgot something (hmm. I only need the runtime of .net that is "only" about 20mb but I have a nice slow 56k modem so it is in the moment also not possible to download an image of a free linux distribution which me really interests).
Maybe if M$ would invest more money to really test their systems to "heart and kidneys" (a German would say "Auf Herz und Nieren") it would be maybe a fine system.
One day I'll do it like you and let that stupid BillGatesOS completely behind me and switch to LINUX. Maybe I program my own OS. Now I have already a GUI written for it. It works under DOS and is called WiDAS.
I know that I'm not the best programmer but I'm proud of my abilities, which I try to improve.

Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B.
well done
